A Free Floating Job Search Via The Net - CareerAlley

A Free Floating Job Search Via The Net - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. Job search was a simple affair only in old times when people were employed even against their will. In modern times, in a free floating job search you can spend a very long time, although its variants have been significantly increased. For example, in recent years more and more of those willing to find a job try to find it through the Internet. Why is job search via the Internet becoming more popular? First, and this is most likely the decisive factor, job search via the Internet is very convenient. It is quite enough, for example, to type in a search engine the query jobs in San Diego and it will offer you more than a dozen references to specialized online resources where these jobs are located. Second, usually when placing a vacancy employers immediately indicate all the necessary for the applicants information salary, schedule, requirements for employees and so on. That is, when you are looking for a job through the Internet, you can find the most suitable one without unnecessary ordeals. Third, experts can send a well-written resume to several employers who need them, which greatly increases the chances of finding employment. For example, when looking for a job as a lawyer in San Diego via the Internet, it is enough to see the relevant vacancies in this city, choose more suitable ones, send a resume to the specified address, and hope for the positive result. Fourth, today a lot of the websites that specialize in searching and offering jobs send e-newsletters with suitable vacancies to registered users. It is only necessary to consent to such subscription when registering. In a nutshell, looking for a job via the Internet is more convenient, faster, cheaper (which is important for a person without a job) and more effective than by other traditional methods existed until recently. That is why this method is so popular today. Be careful! Of course, job search via the Internet has its pitfalls. In particular, it is possible to bump on unscrupulous employers or become a victim of spammers as your email address is in a public domain. There is also such a trick when you receive a letter on your email. In this letter a convenient schedule, a high salary, career growth, and so on are described. Be careful! If everything is so amazing, then such an organization does not need to send letters in a great amount to some unknown candidates, the doors in the personnel department will be blocked with a crowd of applicants. And then such an attractive position is usually given someones friend or relative from this company. And if there is a need to search through the Internet, any self-respecting company would not send spam. However, the benefits of online job search for the real visits of recruitment agencies and specialized sites as JobTonic.com are so obvious that many people choose to ignore such dangers. What do I say about being terminated - Hallie Crawford

What do I say about being terminated This is a great question we often get asked by our clients. It’s a touchy subject you want to handle with confidence… Thank you to Terry Wynne, one of our associate certified career coaches, for this article! “Have you ever been terminated from your position?” your interviewer asks you. You may fear this question because you don’t want to have to say, “Yes.” However, you may be confusing the terms layoff, resignation, and termination. If you were laid off, you have not been terminated. Being laid off from work means the employer could not afford to continue paying your salary or did not have enough work for you to do. When a company downsizes, you may be laid off, and you may be eligible to collect unemployment insurance benefits. If you are asked if you have been terminated and you have only been laid off from previous positions, truthfully answer, “No.” If you resigned, you have not been terminated. Resigning is when you choose to leave a position by your own choice, or by your employer asking you to either resign or be terminated because the employer wants you to leave the company.     If you choose to resign rather than be terminated, you have not been terminated.     In either of these cases, if you are asked if you have been terminated and you have only resigned (even under duress) from previous positions, truthfully answer, “No.” If you have been terminated from a position and you are asked if you have been terminated, the best answer is the shortest one you can give less is best. Without becoming emotional or showing anger, simply say, “I was asked to leave and look forward to a new beginning.” You can add a short explanation such as, “I wasn’t happy in that position and my supervisor and I felt my leaving was best,” or “I wasn’t using my best skills sets and needed to leave and would like to be considered for your opportunity that does use my best skill sets.” If you don’t act upset about your termination, the likelihood is high that your interviewer won’t be upset either. Not getting along with your supervisor is common and so are terminations. No one likes them, but you’re one of many, many people who have experienced them. If your termination was because you committed an illegal or violent act, consider seeking professional help before seeking another job. If your termination was due to a personality conflict with your supervisor, try not to say anything negative about your previous employers, stick to the facts, and say as little as possible. If questioned about the details, be ready with a one sentence description of what occurred and assure the interviewer that you’re ready to move into a position where you’re needed, can contribute, and are happy.  and Terry L. Does Your Resume Make Promises You Cant Deliver

Does Your Resume Make Promises You Cant DeliverWhen youre in high hopes of finding employment, it can be a bit tempting to make promises in your resume that you hope you wont have to prove you can deliver. While its important that you look impressive on your resume, you certainly dont want to get into the habit of telling white lies to get employed.Doing this could truly backfire if you are actually hired for a position, especially once its revealed that you cant deliver the results youve promised. So if you want to impress without exaggerating the truth in your resume, here are some options to considerMake Promises You Can Keep Right NowA great way to avoid making a promise you wont be able to keep if hired is to simply tell the truth about your capabilities in the present. For instance, if you have opened Microsoft Publisher only five times, then you dont want to present yourself as a skilled user.If the job requires that you know Microsoft Publisher like the back of your hand, the n simply list that you have a limited understanding of the program. If the company is impressed enough with your remaining qualifications, then it might hire you anyway with the expectation of sending you to training classes to help you learn what they need you to know.Explain That Youre Taking Steps to Advance Your SkillsAnother way to make a promise you can keep on your resume is by listing the skills that a company wants you to already be proficient in, and then explain in parentheses that you are in the process of acquiring training for that skillonly if it is true, of course. If you have absolutely no knowledge of a particular skill and have no immediate plans for learning it on your own, dont say you are already skilled. Instead, if the subject comes up, ensure the hiring manager during your vorstellungsgesprch that you are more than willing to be trained in those specific areas. When writing your resume, you want to be sure to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but th e truth, as employers have a million and one ways to discover when youre lying. If you are ever tempted to list a promise on your resume that you just cant keep, think again it will likely do you more harm than good. For additional tips and advice on resumes and cover letters, follow us on Twitter GreatResume or visit our blog

Why I Never Feel Like Im Missing Out as a Working Mom

Why I Never Feel Like Im Missing Out as a Working Mom Noelle Coleman, Senior Director, Corporate Affairs at Thomson Reuters, just may be one of the only working moms who can say I never feel like I am missing out. Thats because her company allows her the flexibility to make her own schedule she sometimes works from home, and never feels pressured to work the traditional 9-to-5 hours.Having a boss who understands and values my work product and output and not the hours that I am clocking at a desk in midtown is invaluable to me right now, she says. I get to spend loads of time with my daughter given that I work full-time, and coming to the amtsstube and working with colleagues on new and fun projects means that I get to enjoy the best of both worlds. As Coleman puts it, flexibility at Thomson Reuters is a given, not a privilege, and it breeds loyalty and a drive to excel.Thomson Reuters is Hiring Now Browse Opportunities. She recently spoke to Fairygodboss about her pre-work morning rout ine, her go-to stress-relief activity, and why she believes Thomson Reuters is a fantastic place for working parents. How long have you been in your current role?I have worked at Thomson Reuters for three years in this role.Whats your pre-work morning routine like?It depends on the day. I work from home two days a week and come into the office three days. If its a day that I am coming into the office, I log-on around 7am and respond to emails that came in from Europe and Asia. My husband will get my daughter up and entertain her till he leaves for the office as his commute is longer than mine. Once he leaves, Sloane (my daughter) gets my full attention. We read a few books and have breakfast together and then I get her dressed before either my mom or my nanny arrives at 9am. I usually leave for the office shortly after that as my commute is only 20 minutes. Why do you think Thomson Reuters is a particularly great place to be a working mom?Its one of the best things about the company. For starters, I took a five month maternity leave. My daughter was sleeping through the night when I came back to work and that made a huge difference. We now have a five month, gender-neutral parental leave policy. When I came back to work, my boss was completely kooperationive of having a flexible schedule. There are 24 hours in a day, and as a global company, you often need to work outside of the traditional Monday-Friday, 9-5. Having a boss who understands and values my work product and output and not the hours that I am clocking at a desk in midtown is invaluable to me right now. Most days I try and leave the office around 4, because thats usually a quiet period for me with time zones, and then I will log back on for a few hours from 7-9 once Sloane is asleep. How do you feel like your job has helped complemented your function as a parent?I never feel like I am missing out. I get to spend loads of time with Sloane given that I work full-time and coming to the office and working with colleagues on new and fun projects means that I get to enjoy the best of both worlds. I binnensee so many parents who are burnt out and exhausted and that means they cant give their all to anything. I never feel like I am too tired to fully participate. How has your role as a mom made you a better employee?Being a working mom makes you a time management GURU. You dont stall, you make sharper executive decisions and you never ever waste time. Your home time is valuable and your office is time is valuable so you maximize on that.Whats your go-to stress-relief activity or routine?Bikram yoga. Not only does your body feel great after a session, but your mind is clear as well. Some of my best ideas for work come to me while on the mat. What kinds of boundaries to you follow (if any) to separate work and family time? For me, not having strict boundaries is what enhances my life. Working in PR and Comms, youre never really off, so Monday-Friday 9-5 doesnt really exist. I try and blend li fe and work because I really enjoy what I do. For me, having the flow and ability to work whenever and wherever is the enhancement. What are you especially good at as a mom? What about at work?Im good at playing and planning fun activities. We try and make the fruchtwein out of living in the city so every weekend we have a new adventure. Were always at a museum or the zoo or exploring a new park. Ive never been a homebody, and that translates in my parenting style. At work, I think Im good at bringing new ideas to the table and pushing boundaries. Im less risk averse and push my stakeholders to talk about their teams and their work. I like getting them out into the spotlight and showcasing their talents.Whats your 1 tip for new moms who are navigating the delicate balance of working and mothering?Do not apologize for being a mom in the workplace. If you want to leave to go to a music class or activity with your child, or if you are just back from maternity leave and have a quiet after noon and you miss your baby, go home.In the workplace of the future, what matters is your output and not your attendance. Learn to manage your own schedule and work how you work best. For me, writing is a big part of my job. I do that best in the evenings, on my couch, with my laptop, with quiet. Its impossible to write anything substantive in the office with a million other distractions. So if I duck out at 4pm to get in some QT, I am more than making up for it at other hours.I think if collectively, we all prioritize balance, the work culture will ultimately adapt too.Whats your favorite part of your work day (or your favorite aspect of your job)?Because I sit in corporate, I get to support many groups from emerging technology and innovation to our ESG efforts. I am constantly learning something new. My days vary all the time and I love that. What do you love most about your Thomson Reuters? That it not only supports, but alsoencouragesemployees to work their best. Flexibility is a given here, not a privilege, and it breeds loyalty and a drive to excel.--Fairygodboss is proud to partner with Thomson Reuters. Find a job there today
